Super Eagles Coach Éric Chelle Linked With Marseille Job After De Zerbi Exit

 Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has reportedly emerged as one of the candidates being considered for the vacant Olympique Marseille managerial role following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure by mutual consent on Tuesday.

According to journalist Lassana Camara, Chelle is among several names on Marseille’s shortlist as the French club begins its search for a new head coach. Former Stade Rennes manager Habib Beye is also said to be under consideration.

Chelle’s profile has grown significantly in recent years, particularly after guiding Nigeria’s Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The 48-year-old remains under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until January 2027, meaning any potential move would require negotiations between all parties involved.

Amid speculation about his future, Chelle recently praised Super Eagles winger Moses Simon, describing the Paris FC forward as an important tactical asset for the national team.

Speaking to RMC Sport’s After Foot, Chelle highlighted Simon’s direct playing style, strength in one-on-one situations and ability to provide width in Nigeria’s attacking setup. He also commended the winger’s early performances at Paris FC, where Simon has recorded four goal contributions in his first seven Ligue 1 matches since joining from Nantes on a three-year deal.

During the 2025 AFCON tournament, Simon featured mainly as a substitute but started in key matches, including the group-stage clash against Uganda and the third-place play-off against Egypt, as Chelle rotated his squad during the competition.
