President Bola Tinubu has put forward Yemi Cardoso as the nominee for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Additionally, he has nominated four individuals to serve as deputy governors: Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala M. Bello.
Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s special adviser on media and publicity, made this announcement in a statement on Friday.
Subject to Senate confirmation, Yemi Cardoso is expected to serve a five-year term as CBN Governor. This nomination adheres to Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which grants the President the authority to appoint the Governor and four Deputy Governors for the CBN, pending Senate approval.
Aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, these nominees are anticipated to lead essential reforms at the Central Bank of Nigeria, fostering confidence among Nigerians and international partners while reshaping the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Yemi Cardoso, a seasoned banker, chartered stockbroker, and public policy expert, boasts a diverse background in the public, private, and development sectors.
He has previously served as a commissioner of economic planning and budget in Lagos state, chaired the board of the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance, and most recently held the position of chairman at Citibank Nigeria Ltd.
Furthermore, Cardoso is the founding chairman and co-chair of the Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos state economic summit, and serves on the advisory board of Lagos Business School (LBS).
