News In Pictures: Police Brutalise Journalist, Activists During Independence Day Protest

The protesters, over 200 of them, marched from the streets of Ojota to Maryland in Lagos, chanting songs of solidarity.

Nigeria marked 60 years of its independence from Britain on Thursday.

However, towards the end of the march, security operatives disrupted the protest, and arrested some of the activists and journalists, leading to some persons sustaining injuries.

Kayode Jaiyeola, a photojournalist with The PUNCH who was covering the event, was brutalised by a police officer.
