Suicide averted as female undergraduate drank sniper to end her life

A suicide attempt was averted at the University Town of Nsukka, Enugu State, as a female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, reportedly drank sniper to take her own life on Saturday.

Southern City News learnt that Chinwendu Odoh, a 200-level Microbiology student, had on Saturday drank the substance, but was lucky as she was immediately rushed to hospital, where she was revived.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that the victim was already responding to treatment.

According to the police spokesman, the incident occurred on Saturday morning.

“The victim, identified as 24-year-old Chinwendu Odoh, from Enugu Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State and who is also said to be a 200-level Microbiology student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, allegedly drank substance believed to be sniper insecticide with a view to taking her own life before she was promptly rushed to Royal Cross Hospital, Nsukka, where she is being revived,” Amaraizu said.

He added that personnel of the Nsukka division of the state police command had commenced investigation to unravel the mystery behind the attempted suicide.

The PPRO, however, said preliminary investigation pointed towards depression over an unresolved family issue.
