Witness narrates how soldiers allegedly defiled AAUA student in Ondo

An eye witness has given an account of how one of the students currently studying at the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) was defiled by some army personnel last Wednesday at a checkpoint.

The victim, who is said to be a 300 level student studying Religious and African Studies, was asked to step out of a vehicle she had boarded to take her back to school by the uniformed men.

Although there were other students present, only the young lady was asked to proceed into their mini-barracks.

Reporting the incidence to The Nation, the eye witness stated that it took over one hour before the lady was released.

The report reads, “We were coming from Akungba in a mini-bus on Wednesday evening. On getting to the checkpoint, a soldier looked inside our vehicle, pointed to the victim and ordered her to get down. We didn’t know why he did that. When the lady alighted, he took her to their mini-barracks and asked us to leave the scene.

“Out of fear we left the place, hoping that she would be released immediately, but she was not released until one hour later. We discovered that she had been raped by the soldiers at the checkpoint.

“Immediately, we went to Ikare Police Station to report the incident and took the victim to Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko for examination and treatment. She is still in hospital and doctors have confirmed that she was raped.”

Femi Joseph, the Police spokesperson in Ondo State has reacted to the incidence, stating that although he has not been briefed properly, he was aware that the case had been reported at a police station and officers have begun to carry out investigations.
